Heng-Te Lung from Taiwan is currently studying on the University Preparation Program at Marymount California University. Here. he shares his experience so far.

What have you enjoyed most about your studies/being at Kings so far?
Kings let me know how to university work. I had no idea how to do it before I came to the United States. I really did not know the form of an essay or an oral presentation. The work was really different from my old school in Taiwan. I have really enjoyed learning many new things. I also liked a lot of the activities and field trips that Kings has taken us too.

Why did you decide to take this course and what have you found most helpful so far?
When in High School, I was too busy, I did not have time to take the TOEFL test, and I did not want to go to a random university. I heard that Kings can help students transfer to other universities. I like that plan because I have learned how to do university work so I feel more ready than when I first came.

Do you know yet what subject you’d like to major in, and which university you’d like to get to?
I want to study something related to film, but I want to take more classes to know what I want to do exactly in the movie industry. I want to eventually study in Loyola Marymount University. I want to stay in Los Angeles and it is a good and respected school.

Had you been to California before? What do you like about living in Rancho Palos Verdes?
I had not been to California before, this was my first time coming here. Rancho Palos Verdes is a beautiful city, the school has a beautiful view of the ocean.

What support have you received from Kings staff at MCU?
Kings staff has helped me understand what I should do to succeed with my studies. They have given me clear information. Jennifer (the Center Director) has helped me a lot. She has helped me understand documents. My teachers have helped me be less nervous about university school work.

What are you most looking forward to about starting your freshman year at University?
I want to make American friends. I want to learn American Culture and Teenage Culture. I feel afraid too. Cause I know it will be hard. It is also one step forward toward my goals.

What advice would you give to other students from your country who are considering doing this program?
Be prepared, it is not like the Taiwan school system. You need to understand when teachers, say ask a question, that is what they really mean. Don’t waste your time. It is really important to understand the work to do better in the future.
